Plate Tectonics
| Term | Definition |

| Convergent boundary | The boundary between two tectonic plates that are colliding. |
| Divergent boundary | The boundary between two tectonic plates that are moving away from one another. |
| Transform boundary | The boundary between two tectonic plates that are sliding past one another. |
| Subsidence | The gradual caving in or sinking of an area of land. |
| Tectonic plate | The layers of the earth's crust that move. The movement causes earthquakes. |
| Rift Zone | An area where plates of the earth's crust are moving away from each other. |
| Seafloor Spreading | The formation of new areas of oceanic crust, which occurs through the rising of magma at mid ocean ridges. |
| Convection Current | A current in a fluid that results from convection. Convection is the transfer of heat in a gas or liquid by the circulation of currents. |
| Fault | A crack in the Earth’s crust. |
| Ocean Basin | Anywhere on Earth covered by water. |
| Volcano | A type of mountain, formed by molten rock that has erupted onto the Earth's surface. |
| Earthquake | The result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. |
