| Esophagus | function is to move the bolus from the mouth to the stomach with the use of smooth muscles. |
| Stomach | Mixes food with substances produced by the chief and parietal cells. |

| Jejunum | Second and longest section of the small intestines and is where you find the greatest amount of microvilli, which increases the surface area to allow for faster absorption of nutrients into the blood stream. |
| Ileum | The third section of the small intestines which connects to the large intestines. |
| Pancreas | Small organ that secretes insulin, which regulates the ability of glucose to enter the body. |
| Liver | Larger organ that has over 500 specific jobs in the body, which includes filtering the blood arriving from the small intestine as well as the manufacture of enzymes & glucagon(the storage form of glucose) |
| Cecum | Is the junction of the small intestines and the large intestines and the appendix is located in this same area. |
| Large Intestine | Functions to remove water from the digested food and the production or absorption of vitamin K, which is vital in blood clotting. |
