What is Taxonomy? It is the study of how organisms are classified
Why do scientists use taxonomy? used to identify the name of an unknown organism
What is Binomial Nomenclature? it is a two part naming system made up of the organism's genus and species; the more groups that two organisms share, the more characteristics they have in common
What is the broadest level of classification? Domain
Explain the Eukarya domain. plants, animals, protists and fungi
Explain the Archaea and Bacteria domain. they are unicellular organisms without a nuclei
Explain how to write an organism's name using Binomial Nomenclature. The Genus is first and it is capitalized; the species is second and it is lowercase; it is either italicized or underlined
Why is Scientific Naming better than a common name? there is only one scientific name
What can help identify organisms? Taxonomic Keys
Name the genus in Felis domesticus. Felis
Name the species in Homo sapiens sapiens
What is the most specific level of classification? species
Name the eight levels of classification, in order. Domain, Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species
