| Term | Definition |

| Solute | A substance that is dissolved in another substance. |
| Solvent | A substance capable of dissolving another substance. |
| Solution | A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances, which may be solids, liquids, gases, or a combination of these. |
| Solubility | The ability of a substance to dissolve. |
| Temperature | A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter. |
| Concentration | The amount of a substance in an amount of another substance. |
| Polarity/Polar | Electrons are not equally shared in bonding; one part of the molecule is more negative than the other part of the molecule. |
| Nonpolar | Electrons are equally shared; does not contain poles. |
| Agitation | Shaking or stirring for the purpose of mixing. |
