IPC Solutions

Solutions

TermDefinition
Solute A substance that is dissolved in another substance.
Solvent A substance capable of dissolving another substance.
Solution A homogeneous mixture of two or more substances, which may be solids, liquids, gases, or a combination of these.
Solubility The ability of a substance to dissolve.
Temperature A measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter.
Concentration The amount of a substance in an amount of another substance.
Polarity/Polar Electrons are not equally shared in bonding; one part of the molecule is more negative than the other part of the molecule.
Nonpolar Electrons are equally shared; does not contain poles.
Agitation Shaking or stirring for the purpose of mixing.
