uniformitarianism the geological principle that the same geological processes that operate today operated in the past to change the earths surface
erosion the process by which water ice wind or gravity moves particles of rock and soil
weathering the chemical and physical processes that breakdown rock and other substances.
mechanical weathering the type of weathering in which rock is physically broken into smaller pieces .
chemical weathering the process that breaks down rock, due to chemical changes
abrasion the grinding away by rock and other rock particles carried in water, ice, or wind
frost wedging process that splits rocek when water seeps into crack, then freezes and expands.
oxidation a chemical change in which a substance combines , as when iron oxidizes
