Chemical analysis

Lithium ions go what colour? Crimson
Sodium ions go which colour? Yellow
Calcium ions go which colour? Brick red
Copper ions go which colour? Green
What do you add to cations (metal ions) to form a coloured precipitate? Sodium Hydroxide
What precipitate does calcium form? White
What precipitate does copper form? Blue
What precipitate does magnesium form? White
What precipitate does iron (2 and 3) form? Green, and brown
How to test for carbonates? Dilute acid helps detect carbonates as it produces carbon dioxide
How to test for Sulfates? Use HCL and Barium chloride if sulfate ions are present a white precipitate is formed.
Test for Halides ? Cl-White Br-Cream I-Yellow Dilute nitric acid and silver nitrate.
