Organelles and their fuctions

nucleus Controls cell function, contains DNA
nuclear membrane Surrounds and protects the nucleus
cell membrane Protects the cell, lets some substances go in and out
cytoplasm Jelly-like substance the organelles float around in
ribosomes Make protein for the cell
endoplasmic reticulum Carry substances around the cell
golgi body Packages and moves substances out of the cell
mitochondria Converts sugar into energy for the cell
lysosomes Only in animal cells - Cleans up the cell, gets rid of waste
vacuole Stores water and other substances
cell wall Provides support and structure for the plant cell
chloroplasts Structures which allow for photosynthesis in plant cells
cells Building block of all living things
organelle Part of a cell
rectangular Shape of a plant cell
round, blob Shape of an animal cell
prokaryotic Does not have a nucleus, always single celled, bacteria
eukaryotic Type of cell that has a nucleus and complex organelles
