Cellular Respiration The process in which oxygen and glucose undergo a series of chemical reactions inside the cells to release energy.
Reactants The starting materials needed to create a reaction.
Mitochondria A rod shaped organelle that can convert energy in food to energy that the cell can use.
Energy The capacity to do work.
Glucose The main type of sugar in the blood and is the major source of energy for the body's cells.
Product The substance that is formed as the result of a chemical reaction.
Source Where something came from, the original material.
Photosynthesis Process by which autotrophs capture and use sunlight to make food from carbon dioxide and water.
Chlorophyll The green, photosynthetic pigment found in the chloroplast of plants, algae, and some bacteria.
Chloroplast The organelle in the cells of plants that captures energy from the sun to make food for the cell. Where photosynthesis occurs.
Heterotroph Organism that cannot make its own food and must consume other living organisms for energy
autotroph Organism that is able to capture energy from the sun and use photosynthesis to make food.
Xylem Tissue that conveys water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant and also provides physical support.
Phloem Carries the sugar that's made during photosynthesis from the leaves to other parts of the plant.
