TermDefinition
simple machine a one-function machine (i.e. lever, wedge, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, screw) that makes work easier by changing the size, direction, or speed of the force.
lever a bar that is free to turn about a fixed point (fulcrum) to make lifting easier.
wedge two inclined planes back to back and tapered to a point.
pulley rope wrapped around a wheel
wheel and axle a simple machine where force applied at the outer edge of the wheel produces a greater force at the end of the axle.
