Solar System Objects
| Term | Definition |

| solar system | Made up of the sun, the planets, their moons, and a variety of smaller objects. |
| astronomical unit | A unit of distance equal to the average distance between Earth and the sun, about 150 million kilometers. |
| sun | A gaseous body much larger than anything else in the solar system. |
| planet | Round, orbits the sun, and has cleared out the region of the solar system along its orbit. |
| moon | A natural satellite (a celestial body in orbit). |
| asteroid | Small, mostly rocky bodies. |
| meteoroids | Chunks of rock or dust smaller than asteroids. |
| comets | Loose balls of ice and rock that usually have very long, narrow orbits. |
