Scientific Method Vocab

Scientific Method A series of steps used to help find solutions to problems and/or questions
Hypothesis The educated guess of an outcome based on facts or information; an IF, THEN statement for an experiment
Experiment A planned procedure to test a hypothesis
Independent Variable The factor being tested; what the investigator is testing
Dependent Variable The factor being measured for change, relies on the independent variable
Control Group The group in the experiment that is not being tested and is used for comparison
Experimental Group The group in the experiment that is being tested/manipulated
Data Recorded observations or measurements
Results Written summary of findings
Abstract Short summary of the investigation that includes purpose, procedures, hypothesis, results, and application
