Science unit 7

Evidence for evolution 1 fossils A fossil is a trace or imprint of a livening thing such as a plant animal fungus etc These fossils are reserved in rock
Dating a fossil One Method a scientist can can use to find out the relative age of rocks is relative dating
2 the fossil record The fossil record it incomplete and it represents all the species we found so far
Comparing skeletal structures Comparing different groups of organisms The comparison of bones
Comparing DNA All living things have the same genetic material and they do from Bactria to giraffes all organism share the same DNA and scientist hypotheize that species who appear to be close relatives should share more DNA
Who is our closest ancestor Gorilla
Comparing embryonic sturutures In there adult form it is every easy to tell apart a fish and a human but as embryos it’s not so easy. Scientist think if all living things are connected then they should resemble each other as embryos
Vestigial structures They are remains of once useful structures but are no longer needed example is a tail bone
