| Core | Earth’s center, made up of a liquid outer core and a solid inner core. |
| Crust | The thin outer layer of earth. |
| Magma | Melted liquid rock beneath Earth’s surface. |
| Mantle | The semi-solid layer of Earth that lies between the crust and the core |
| Volcano | A place in Earth’s crust where gases, ash, and lava spew onto the surface. |
| Continent | The main landmasses on Earth such as Africa, North America, and Asia. |
| Continental Drift | The theory stating that continents are continually moving. |
| Convergent boundary | Boundary where two plates push together (often makes mountains). |
| Divergent boundary | Boundary where two plates push away from each other (creates trenches). |
| Earthquake | The shaking of ground caused by sudden jolts of plate movement |
| Plates | Large sheets of rocks that make up Earth’s crust. |
| Transform boundary | Where two plate slide along each other. |
| Chemical Weathering | A change in rock as it reacts with different liquids and gases. |
| Deposition | the process of dropping sediments to a new place |
| Erosion | the process of transporting sediments by water, wind, ice or gravity. |
| Igneous rock | rock formed by the hardening of hot, molten magma |
| Mechanical Weathering | The physical breaking of rock by wind, water, and ice. |
| Metamorphic rock | rock formed when igneous or sedimentary rock is put under extreme heat and pressure. |
| Rock | solid natural material made of minerals |
| Sediment | particles of weathered rock (sand/soil) |
| Sedimentary rock | rock formed when sediment is compacted |
| Fossils | Preserved remains of an organism found in rock |
| Superposition | The theory that sedimentary rock on bottom is older than rock above it. |
| Relative age | Comparison of age to determine which is older or younger. (No exact number) |
| Absolute age | The exact numerical age |
