TermDefinition
Genetic is the study of heredity and genes
Heredity is the passing of traits from parents to offspring's
Characteristic is a feature that has different forms in a population
Traits the different forms of characteristics
Dominant trait Masks the other traits;the trait that shows up if present Represented by a capital letter R
Recessive trait The trait that recedes or hides; the recessive trait only show if both alleles are present. Represented by lower case letter r
Ratio is a relationship between 2 different numbers that is often expressed as a fraction
Genes one step of instructions for inherited traits
Allele one of the alternative forms of a gene that governs a characteristic suck as hair color
Phenotype an organisms appearance or other detectable characteristics
Genotype the entire genetic makeup of an organism, also the combination of genes for one or more specific
Homozygous traits are alike or same
Heterozygous traits are unalike or different
Punnet Square a punnett square is used to organize all the possible characteristics of offspring from particular parents
Probability The likelihood that a possible future event will occur in any given instance of the event
