heliocentric The solar system model that places planets in orbit around the sun
geocentric The solar system model that places the sun and all other planets in orbit around earth
Phobos A moon of Mars
Deimos A moon of Mars
Jovian Refers to the outer gas giants; Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Jove is an old term for the Roman God Jupiter.
Io Galilean Moon of Jupiter. Heavily cratered by volcanoes. Sulfur planet. Tidal heating is important to Io.
Europa Galilean Moon of Jupiter. Iron core with rocky surface, covered in water ice. May have huge stores of fresh water under the crust.
Ganymede Galilean Moon of Jupiter. Rocky surface, covered in water ice. Largest moon in solar system. Oxygen atmosphere.
Callisto Galilean Moon of Jupiter. Heavily cratered surface implies no tectonic or volcanic activity. Possible salty ocean. CO2 atmosphere.
Titan Moon of Saturn. Second largest moon in solar system. Nitrogen and Methane atmosphere.
Comet Dust and rock particles mixed with frozen water, methane, and ammonia. A "dirty snowball".
Meteoroid A piece of rock debris floating through space
Meteor A meteoroid that has entered earth's atmosphere and burns
Meteorite A meteor that has hit earth's surface.
Asteroid A large piece of rock debris floating through space
