| Term | Definition |

| Traits | A characteristic that an organism can pass to offspring through genes. |
| Phenotype | An organism's physical appearance or visible traits. |
| Homozygous | Having two identical alleles for a trait. |
| Heterozygous | Having two different alleles for a trait. |
| Incomplete Dominance | A blended phenotype. One allele is not completely dominant over the other |
| Codominance | A blended phenotype. One allele is not completely dominant over the other |
| Punnett Square | A chart that shows the possible combinations of alleles that result from a genetic cross. |
| Genotype | An organism's actual gene makeup or allele combinations. |
| Chromosomes | Threadlike structures made of DNA molecules that contain the genes |
| Genes | The set of information that controls a trait; code in the DNA. |
| Alleles | The different forms of a gene. |
| Recessive | An allele that is masked when a dominant allele is present. |
| Dominant | An allele whose trait always shows up in the organism when it is present. |
