TermDefinition
Weather The day to day conditions of the atmosphere
Climate The general weather over a period of time
Water Cycle The process in which water continuously moves from Earth's surface into the atmosphere and back again
Precipitation General name for any form of water falling through the air
Evaporation The point at which water turns to water vapor
Condensation The point at which water vapor turns back to water
Accumulation A part of the water cycle in which water collects in large bodies of water
Transpiration The release of water vapor by plants
Runoff Water that does not soak into the ground and instead flows across Earth's surface
Solar System A star and all the objects in orbit around it
Earth The third planet from the Sun; a small, rocky planet that is unique because it has liquid water which enables it to support life
Sun The star that is at the center of our solar system which provides energy for Earth
Moon A natural satellite in space that revolves around a planet
Planets A large body that moves in orbit around a star
Rotate/Rotation To turn on an axis. Earth rotates on its axis once every 24 hours.
Axis The imaginary line around which Earth rotates
Day/Night Cycle Caused by Earth spinning on its axis once every 24 hours
Shadow An image cast when light is blocked by an opaque object, changes as the sun moves through the sky
Sunrise The sun rises in the EAST
Sunset The sun sets in the WEST
