Genetics

QuestionAnswer
Genetics the study of heredity a biological process where a parent passes certain genes onto their offspring express specific traits or characteristics
Gregor Mendel Father of modern genetics experimented on pea plants
Genotype genetic make up of an organism Represented by letters EX: TT, tt, Tt
Phenotype physical appearance of an organism. EX: Tall, short
Alleles variants or difference in a gene occurs in a fixed spot
Dominant show their effect with only 1 copy of the allele EX: T
Recessive show their effect with 2 copies of the allele EX: t
Inherited Traits comes from both parents examples: skin, hair, and eye color, height, and freckles
Homozygous ( Purebred) consists of gene pairs that are the same ( TT or tt)
Heterozygous (Hybrid) consists of gene pairs that are different (Tt)
Punnet Square a diagram used by geneticists to determine the probability of an offspring having a particular phenotype.
