Matter
Term | Definition |

Matter | Anything that has weight and takes up space. |
Particles | The tiny building blocks that make up matter. |
Property | A distinctive quality of an object made of matter. Ex: Color, shape size, temperature, weight, viscosity. |
Solid | Particles are closely packed together |
Liquid | Particles are more loosely packed together |
Gas | Particles are VERY loosely packed. |
Elements | Made of one type of particle like oxygen & hydrogen. |
Compounds | It's made up of two or more elements, but are hard to break apart |
Mixture | Is made up of two or more elements, but are easy to break apart. Ex: Cereal and milk. |
Boiling point | The point at which matter changes from a liquid to a gas. |
Melting point | The temperature at which matter changes from a solid to a liquid. |
Chemical Change | Change in one or more substance, caused by a reaction, that forms new and different substances. |
Physical change | A change which the shape or form of the substance changes, but the substance still has the same chemical makeup. |
