organelle FUNctions

yay! they're FUN!

QuestionAnswer
Cell Wall provide support and protection of the cell.
Cell membrane regulates what enters and leaves the cell. Also provides protection and support
Cytoskeleton a network of protein filaments that helps the cell maintain its shape. Also involved in movement
Chloroplasts organelles that capture the energy from sunlight and convert it into chemical energy in a process called photosynthesis.
Mitochondria are organelles that convert the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use.
Vacuoles store materials like water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Lysosomes are small organelles filled with enzymes. Function is to breakdown lipids, carbohydrates and proteins so that they can be used by the rest of the cell. They also break down old organelles.
Golgi Apparatus modify, sort, and package proteins and other materials form the endoplasmic reticulum for storage in the cell or secretion outside the cell.
Smooth E.R. contains collections of enzymes that perform specialized tasks, including the synthesis of membrane lipids, and detoxification of drugs.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum synthesis of proteins. Newly made proteins leave the ribosomes and are inserted into the R.E.R., where they are chemically modified.
Endoplasmic reticulum the site where lipid components of the cell membrane are assembled, along with proteins and other materials that are exported from the cell.
Ribosomes are small particles of RNA and protein found throughout the cytoplasm. They produce proteins by following the coded instructions that come from the nucleus.
Nucleus contains nearly all the cell’s DNA and with it the coded instructions for making proteins and other important molecules

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
