Main Idea or Central Idea What the story is mostly about
Key Details or Supporting Details A word or phrase that supports the main idea and helps us answer a question

Theme/Central Message/Moral The life lesson of a story or the author's message
Literal Meaning Using words in their usual and exact meaning
Nonliteral/Figurative a word or phrase that does not mean what it actually states (use for dramatic effect)
Context Clues Hints that an author gives to help you define a difficult term
