| Evaporation | When water turns into a gas |
| Condensation | When gas turns back into a liquid |
| Ground Water | Water held underground in the soil or in pores and crevices of rock |
| Water Cycle | The cycles of processes by which water circulates between the Earth's oceans, atmosphere and land involving precipitation as rain and snow, drainage in streams and rivers and return to the atmosphere by evaporation and transpiration. |
| Transpiration | The process when a plant absorbs water through the roots and then gives off water vapor through the pores in the leaves |
| Runoff | The draining away of water carried from the surface |
| Ocean | 70% of the Earth's surface is covered in water. Of that 70%: 97% is salt water and only 3% of all Earth's water is fresh water. BUT... 2% is frozen water and 1% is our fresh water we can drink. |
| Rain Gauge | Tool that measures the accumulation of precipitation |
