The geographic quiz for Social Studies

What does the vocab word SITE mean? The physical and cultural features of a location.
What does the vocab term PHYSICAL FEATURES mean? Characteristics of the Earth
What does the vocab term CULTURAL FEATURES mean? Features of the landscape that are influenced by the culture of the people living there.
What does the vocab term SITUATION mean? How well a location works for those living there. (Good or bad things about living in a place)
What are some examples of Physical Features? -Land forms -Soils -Plant Life -Animal Life -Climate
What Physical Sites did the early colonial people have? Access to raw materials, for shipping home. Access to trade with Native American. Good view of harbor.
Early colonial settlements were usually close to... Native Americans or raw materials
Early colonial settlements were usually far from... Home parts, other European cities.
What part of the river do early colonial settlements usually try to settle on? Near the mouth of a river with a good harbor.
What are some examples of Cultural Features? -Religion -Languages -Housing -Sports -Transportation
What Human Sites did the early colonial people have? More men than women. Few children til later years. Most of the people were young colonists. Building simple and temporary. Wall and fenced in community.

Cultural Sites of Jamestown are... Fence around settlement Small buildings Watch Tower
Why are most populated areas on the coast? There on the coast because it is the first place they land. They decide to stay there and then trade with the other people that decided to stay along the coast.
