AP II Ch 20 Cardio

Chapter 20 Cardiovasular System: The Heart

QuestionAnswer
The heart is actually how many pumps and what do the pumps do? The heart has 2 pumps/1st receives O2 poor blood from body and pumps it to the lungs(pulmonary circulation)2nd receives O2 rich bld from the lungs and pumps it to the body(systemic circulation)
What are the Fxns of the heart? 1.Generating BP 2. Routing Bld 3.Ensuring one-way bld flow 4. Regulating bld supply
How does the heart generate BP? Contracting of the heart generates the BP, wh/is responsible for bld movement thru vessels
How does the heart route bld? The heart is the interchange between pulmonary & systemic circulation, thus insuring better oxygenation of bld going to tissues
How does the heart ensure one-way bld flow? valves of the heart are one way thus insuring no backflow
How does the heart regulate bld supply? as metabolic needs of the tissues change the heart can change rate and force of contraction to aid the tissues
Name the route of bld flow thru the heart. SVC & IVC and Cornary Sinus drain into the R. Atrium-Tricuspid-R.ventricle-Pulmonary valves-pulmonary arteries-Rt.& Lt lungs-Pulmonary veins-L.Atrium-Bicuspid-L.Ventricles-Aortic Valve-Aortic-heart and body tissues
What is the purpose of the heart skeleton? 1.supports semilunar & atrioventricular valves to insure they don't collapse2.Acts as electrical insulation between the atria & ventricles3.Acts as a pt of attachment for cardiac muscle
What does the conducting system of the heart consists of? SA Node-AV Node-AV bundle-Rt&Lt bundle branches-Perkinje fibers
What is the fuction of the SA node? ititiates action potientials that spread across the atria and cause them to contract
What is the function of the AV node? action potential slows allowing the atria to coplete contraction and ventricles to fill
After the SA node & AV node where does the action potential go to? And what does it do? AV bundle,RT&LT bundle branches,Purkenje fibers-This causes the contractions of the ventricles from the apex of the heart toward the base
Each atria can be considered a _____ Pump? Primer-pumps in the same organ
Each ventricle can be considered a _____ pump? Power pump
What produces the major force causing bld to flow thru pulmonary and systemic arteries? The Ventricles

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
