| Astronomy | The study of sky, space and the universe. |
| Big Bang Theory | The theory of the expansion of the universe over time. |
| Red Shift | A shifting of spectral lines towards longer wavelengths in radiation from galaxies. |
| Blue Shift | Shift of spectrum in shorter wavelengths in the light that comes from celestial objects. |
| Frequency | Rate that vibration occurs that constitutes waves. |
| Wavelength | The distance between the peaks of a wave. |
| Absolute Brightness | How bright a star appears at a certain distance of years or parsecs. |
| Apparent Brightness | The brightness of a star that is seen from Earth. |
| Cosmic Microwave Background | A glow of light that fills the universe that falls on Earth from every direction. |
| Universe | Existing matter and space. |
| Galaxy | A system of many stars, gas and dust that is held together from the attraction of gravity. |
| Electromagnetic Spectrum | Wavelength or frequency range over which electromagnetic radiation extends. |
| Astronomical Unit | A measurement equal to 149.6 million km, which is the mean distance from the Earths center to the Suns center. |
| Light Year | Astronomical distance that is the equal to the distance that light travels in one year. |
| Cosmology | The science of the development and origin of the universe. |
