WordDefinition
Weathering the wearing away of sediments by water, waves, wind or ice
Erosion The moving or carrying away of sediments to a new location
Deposition The dropping of sediments to a new location
Cementation Sticking together like glue
Compaction The pressure of pressing together sediments
Sedimentary rock Rock made by the deposits of sediments that form layers. This kind of rock is where most fossils are found.
Soil The upper layer of Earth consisting of a mixture of organic remains, rocks and clay particles
Gravel Smaller stones, pebbles of rock, no water stays, no nutrients
Properties of Soil All soil contains mineral particles, sand, silt, shells and clay particles. Also they have organic matter, water and air.
Particles Very small in size, tiny, a speck, crumb
Retain To keep in or hold back
Sediment Particles of matter that could be sand, silt, shell and other substances that are carried then deposited.
