Parts of A Cell

Biology

QuestionAnswer
Cell Membranes keeps all of the pieces of the cell inside the cytoplasm, however it is semi-permeable, wich allows movement in and out of the cell. It also serves as an attachment point for the intracellular cytoskeleton.
Cytoplasm The fluid that fills a cell. Scientists used to call the fluid protoplasm.
RNA Ribonucleic Acid.
The nucleus Consists of the nuclear envelope, nucleolus, chromatin, and nucleoplasm.
Nuclear Envelope Creates distinct nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments in eukaryotic cells.
chromosomes DNA and proteins that condense to form chromosomes in eukaryotic cell division. Chromatin is located in the cell's nucleus.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER) It is important in the storage of ions in solutions, and creation of steroids.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER) Important in the synthesis and packaging of proteins.
Vacuole Found in plant cells, stores nutrients for the cell.
Cell Wall The outest layer of a Plant cell, it provides protection from injury and support for the plant.
Cell membrane also known as a unit membrane,it acts as a boundary layer to contain the cytoplasm within the cell.
Chloroplast Only found in plant cells, this produces food in the cell.
Centriole They come in a pair, and help the cell when it comes time to divide.
Ribosomes The protein synthesizers. This crates protein in the cell, by connecting amino acids.
Lysosomes hold enzymes that were created by the cell. It helps to digest food, and brake down the cell when it dies.
Peroxisomes very similar to lysosomes, however its primary function is to digest fatty acids and alcohol.
Microtubules They move vesicles, granules, organelles like mitochondria, and chromosomes via special attachment proteins
Cytoskeleton This has a simmiler job as the cell wall in plant cell. It establishing the cells shape, and intracellular transport of organelles.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
