Cent Germs An acronym to remember the energy types; mechanical, radiant, sound, chemical, electrical, nuclear, thermal, gravitational and elastic
thermal energy a type of kinetic energy caused by the movement of heat
nuclear energy a type of potential energy stored in the nucleus of an atom
electrical energy a type of kinetic energy caused by the movement of electrons
chemical energy a type of potential energy stored in things such as food and batteries
sound energy a type of kinetic energy caused by moving waves
radiant energy a type of kinetic energy caused by moving light
mechanical energy the sum of kinetic and potential energy; also can refer to energy of movement of machines and living things
energy transformation one type of energy changing into another type of energy
The Law of Conservation of Energy energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change from one form to another
potential energy energy that is stored
gravitational potential energy energy stored due to position; for example - a boulder at the top of a hill
elastic potential energy energy stored due to stretching or compressing such as in springs or elastic
energy the ability to do work
