Safety Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Hard Hat a rigid protective helmet, as worn by factory and building workers
Ear plugs a device of pliable material for insertion into the outer opening of the ear
Respirator an apparatus worn over the mouth and nose or the entire face to prevent the inhalation of dust, smoke, or other noxious substances.
Vest a sleeveless, close-fitting waist-length garment worn over a shirt, typically having no collar and buttoning down the front
Safety Glasses glass that has been toughened or laminated so that it is less likely to splinter when broken.
Coveralls a one-piece protective garment worn for heavy manual work.
Sleeves the part of a garment that wholly or partly covers a person's arm.
Cut Resistant are those designed to protect the wearer's hands from cuts while working with sharp tools
Dust Mask is a flexible pad held over the nose and mouth by elastic or rubber straps to protect against dusts
Nomex Hood to protect their face, ears and neck from the fire
Steel Toe shoe is a durable boot or shoe that has a protective reinforcement in the toe which protects the foot from falling objects or compression
Boot a sturdy item of footwear covering the foot, the ankle, and sometimes the leg below the knee.
Chaps leather pants without a seat, worn by a cowboy over ordinary pants to protect the legs
Face Shield is a device used to protect wearer's entire face
Fully body suit is a one-piece form-fitting garment that covers the torso and the crotch, and cannot be used as a swimsuit
Gloves a covering for the hand worn for protection against cold or dirt and typically having separate parts for each finger and the thumb.
Wielding helmet is a type of headgear used when performing certain types of welding to protect the eyes, face and neck from flash burn, ultraviolet light, sparks, infrared light, and heat
Harness n arrangement of straps for fastening something to a person's body, such as a parachute, or for restraining a young child.
Hazard a danger or risk.
