| physical properties (definition) | a characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it into a different substance |
| physical properties (examples) | physical state, texture, color, flexibility, others (odor, shape, density, weight, volume, mass ...) |
| chemical properties (definition) | a characteristic of a pure substance that describes its ability to change into different substances |
| chemical properties (examples) | flammability (can burn), ability to react (tarnish or rust) |
| weight | A measure of the force of gravity on an object |
| mass (definition + units) | the measurement of the amount of matter in an object. units mass are measured in are grams(g) and kilograms(kg) |
| triple beam balance | a scale that measures mass in grams (g) |
| graduated cylinder | a device used to measure the volume of a liquid |
| volume -definition (+ units) | The amount of space matter takes up, measured in mL and cm3 |
| Volume for rectangular solid | length * width * height = volume |
