science matter

chemistry The study of the properties of matter and how matter changes
matter Anything that has mass and takes up space
physical properties (definition) a characteristic of a pure substance that can be observed without changing it into a different substance
physical properties (examples) physical state, texture, color, flexibility, others (odor, shape, density, weight, volume, mass ...)
chemical properties (definition) a characteristic of a pure substance that describes its ability to change into different substances
chemical properties (examples) flammability (can burn), ability to react (tarnish or rust)
weight A measure of the force of gravity on an object
mass (definition + units) the measurement of the amount of matter in an object. units mass are measured in are grams(g) and kilograms(kg)
triple beam balance a scale that measures mass in grams (g)
graduated cylinder a device used to measure the volume of a liquid
volume -definition (+ units) The amount of space matter takes up, measured in mL and cm3
Volume for rectangular solid length * width * height = volume
