Sustainable | Able to be maintained at a certain rate or level |
Environmental Sustainability | Avoiding depleting natural resources |
Cultural Sustainability | Nourishment and sharing of attitudes and values that represent diverse ways of viewing the world. Inclusive of political sustainability, which is about all citizens having the opportunity to express their views freely and participate in decision |
Economic Sustainability | Using resources to provide necessary and desirable products and services for the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. |
Social Sustainability | Equity within and between generations and within and between ethnic and social groups. |
Pollution | Waste that damages the environment |
Consultation | Where lots of people are asked their opinions |
Ecology | The science of living things and their environment |
Generations | Lifetimes of many people |
Unsustainable | Going to run out |
Produce | To make new things |
Recycle | To make used things into something else |
Reuse | Use something again |
Reduce | Use less of something |
Waste | Things that are disposed of |
Maintain | Keep at the same level |
Resource | Something to be used |
Solar | Energy from the Sun |
Hydro | Energy from dams on water |
Wind | Energy from the wind |
Renewable | Does not run out |
Composting | Breaking food scraps down into fertiliser to help grow food |
