Astronomy Introduction

TermDefinition
Universe All space and the matter space contains.
Object Anything that is visible or able to be touched
Solar System The Sun together with the group of planets and other celestial bodies that are held by its gravitational attraction and revolve around it.
Rotate The circular movement of an object on its' axis, or center; To spin in a circular motion (like a spinning top).
Revolve/Orbit The circular movement of an object around another object, while it spins on its axis.
Sun The bright star around which Earth and the other planets revolve; Composed mainly of hydrogen and helium.
Composition What something is made up of.
Planet A celestial body moving in an oval-shaped orbit around a star.
Star A ball of gas in space that produces its own light and heat.
Constellation A grouping of stars seen as a figure or design
Astronomy The study of the universe and celestial objects.
