Spontaneous Abortion

Types of Spont. Abort. - Maternity

threatened unexplained, bldng, cramping, back aching
inevitable imminent; bldng + cramping >; internal cervical os dilated; ROM
incomplete parts of products of conception (usually placenta) is retained
complete all products of conception are passed; uterus contracted
habitual occurs consecutively in >3 pregnancies
missed fetus dies but is not expelled; cervix closed; no s+s
What is done c incomplete? dilation & curettage (D&C)
What is done c a missed abortion? induce c Pitocin
risk of missed abortion disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) & infection (sepsis)
