Force and Motion

| force | a push or pull |
| friction | a force that works against motion |
| gravity | a force that attracts objects to each other |
| inertia | the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion |
| motion | a change in an object’s position |
| momentum | the tendency for an object to move in its direction of travel |
| push | to exert a thrusting force upon something |
| pull | to exert a drawing, tugging, or hauling force |
| resistance | anything that slows or stops movement |
| machines | Things that help make work easier by changing amount or direction of forces needed to get a job done |
| simple machine | has no moving parts or only a few moving parts. levers, inclined planes (or ramps), wedges, screw, pulleys, and wheels and axles |
| compound machine | When one or more simple machines are joined in one machine |
