Life Function & Cell

functions and structures

QuestionAnswer
Characteristics of living things made up of cells, have a genetic code, produce offspring, grow and develop, responds to stimuli, adapt and change, need energy, homeostasis.
What is a eukaryotic cell? A cell that CONTAINS a nucleus.
What are two types of eukaryotic cells? cells of animal and plants.
What is a cell organelle? A specialized organ within a cell that performs a certain function for the cell.
What are the eukaryotic cell organelles and what are their functions? nucleus, nucleolus, mitochondria, cell membrane, ribosomes, endoplasmic, reticulum
nucleus City Hall.directs all cell activity and controls its size and reproduction. It is the brain. Contains DNA
cell membrane Police- surrounds the cell to protects and support
mitochondria Factory-produce the energy needed for cells function
cytoplasm People-outside the nucleus. Holds organelle in place.
lysosome Recycling center-hold enzymes. its purpose is to digest
ribosome Business-protein builders
chloroplast Trees-Only found in plants. Produce food. Converts light energy from the sun.
vacuole Water container-store food and nutrients. Found in both plant and animal cells. Much larger in plant cells.
centrioles help with cell division
endoplasmic riticulum manufacturing and packaging system
