Linking Verbs a "be" verb that expresses the state of "being" or existing
action verb a word that tells what the subject did in the sentence (When you have "to" before what looks like an action verb, that word is NOT)
main verb a word that expresses action
helping verb works with the main verb but is not an action verb
verb phrase made up of one or more helping verbs and a main verb
principal parts four basic forms of a verb
tense tells when the action or state of being takes place
present tense tells what is happening now
past tense tells something that has already happened
future tense tells what is going to happen before it does
perfect tense verb tense made up of a form of "have" and the past particle
regular verb past tense past tense words formed by adding "ed"
irregular verb past tense past tense words formed by not adding "ed" (You must memorize them!)
