Surface Features in the Geosphere

TermDefinition
Topography The shape of the land
Landforms Features such as coastlines, dunes, and mountains.
Mountain A landform with both high elevation and high relief
Coastline The boundary between the land and the ocean or a lake
Dune A hill of sand piled up by the wind
River A natural stream of water that flows into another body of water such as an ocean, lake, or another river
Delta A landform that develops when sediment builds up where a river reaches an ocean. The water slows and sand, clay, and sediment in the water sink.
Surveying A process by which mapmakers determine distance and elevation using instruments and the principles of geometry
Model A representation or imitation of landforms which helps understand how thing work
