atmosphere thin envelope of gases- including nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapor, dust particles- that forms Earth's outermost layer
geosphere most of Earth's mass in the form of rock and metal- includes the solid metal inner core, the liquid metal outer core, and the rocky mantle and crust
hydrosphere All of Earth's water, including water that cycles through the atmosphere
cryosphere the frozen component of the hydrosphere
biosphere The parts of Earth that contain all living organisms
Energy The ability to do work
System A group of parts that work together as a whole
Feedback A loop in which a signal or action triggers another signal or action
