| Criminal Law | A wrong punished by the state |
| Judicial Precedent (Sources of Law) | Where the court has to follow the previous ruling from a previous case and cannot change their minds |
| Statutes (Sources of Law) | Another name for an Act of Parliament, created by Parliament |
| Common Law (Sources of Law) | Laws that have been created by judges e.g. murder |
| European Law (Sources of Law) | Certain laws that the European Union creates that we have to abide by |
| Democracy (The Rule of Law) | Important in a democratic country as it safeguards against dictatorship |
| Equality (The Rule of Law) | The law should be applied equally and people are subject to and accountable to the law |
| Fairness (The Rule of Law) | The law must be fairly applied and enforced |
| No Sanctions (Key Principles) | No one shall be sanctioned except in accordance with the law |
| Equality (Key Principles) | There must equality before the law |
| Fairness (Key Principles) | There must be fairness and clarity of the law |
| Procedural | Refers to any procedures or processes before or after the trial |
| Substantive | Refers to any procedures or processes during the trial |
