Properties of Matter
| Term | Definition |

| Luster | The way light reflects from the surface of a substance |
| Malleability | The ability to be hammered into thin sheets |
| Ductility | The ability to be stretched into a wire |
| Brittleness | The ability to break or shatter under stress |
| Conductor | A material that allows electricity or heat to pass through it easily |
| Insulator | A material that does not allow electricity or heat to pass through it easily; slows or stops the flow of energy |
| Metals | Elements that are mostly shiny, silver/gray in color, malleable, ductile, and good conductors of heat and electricity |
| Nonmetals | Elements that are mostly dull, brittle, not malleable or ductile, and poor conductors of heat and electricity |
| Metalloids | Elements that have properties of both metals and nonmetals |
| Melting Point | The temperature at which a solid changes into a liquid |
| Boiling Point | The temperature at which a liquid changes into a gas |
| Freezing Point | The temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
