Anatomical terms
| Term | Definition |

| median | in the middle plane: a plane that divides the body into 2 equal halves right and left. |
| medial | nearer to the median plane |
| lateral | further from the median plane |
| sagittal | plane that is parallel to the median plane |
| frontal/coronal | plane that is at right angles to the median plane cutting the body into anterior or posterior parts |
| transverse/horizontal | a plane that is transverse or cross section |
| superior (cephalic) | nearer head |
| inferior (caudal) | nearer feet |
| anterior (ventral) | nearer front |
| posterior (dorsal) | nearer back |
| proximal | nearer to the root of the structure |
| distal | further from the root of the structure |
| superficial | nearer to the surface |
| deep | further from the surface |
| ulnar | medial side of the leg |
| radial | lateral side of the forearm |
| palmar | anterior surface of the hand |
| dorsum | posterior surface of the hand |
| tibial | medial side of the leg |
| fibular | lateral side of the leg |
| plantar | inferior surface of the foot |
| dorsum | superior surface of the foot |
| flexion | folds a joint |
| extension | straightens a joint |
| dorsiflexion | pulls the foot up at the ankle |
| plantar flexion | pushes the foot down at the ankle |
| abduction | away from the median plane |
| adduction | towards the median of the plane |
| ulnar deviation | adduction of the wrist |
| radial deviation | abduction at the wrist |
| rotation | where part of the body rotates on its own longitudinal axis |
| pronation | rotation of the palm of hand posteriorly |
| supination | carries the palm anteriorly |
| inversion | turns the foot inwards |
| eversion | turns the foot outwards |
| visceral | Something felt deep down |
| parietal | Relating to the inner walls of a body cavity |
