Ecosystems Vocab

TermDefinition
Biotic Factors The living parts of an ecosystem.
Abiotic Factors Nonliving things in ecosystems like water, soil, temperature, and sunlight.
Organisim A single form of life; the simplest form of organization in ecology.
Population All members of one kind of organisim that live in a particular area.
Communities A group of different populations of organisims.
Ecosystem A collection of different communites and and the abiotic factors.
Deforestation The clearing of forest lands
Ecology The study of interactions between living things and their enviroments
Tropical rain forest In this biome, Earth receives direct sunlight for most of the year, so temperatures are always warm. This climate is also very wet.
Biome A large-scale ecosystem
Desert This land receives little to no rainfall and it can be difficult to find water. It can be hot during the day, but cold at night.
Tundra This biome is known for low temperatures and long winters, which prevents trees and large plants from growing
