| Term | Definition |

| Biotic Factors | The living parts of an ecosystem. |
| Abiotic Factors | Nonliving things in ecosystems like water, soil, temperature, and sunlight. |
| Organisim | A single form of life; the simplest form of organization in ecology. |
| Population | All members of one kind of organisim that live in a particular area. |
| Communities | A group of different populations of organisims. |
| Ecosystem | A collection of different communites and and the abiotic factors. |
| Deforestation | The clearing of forest lands |
| Ecology | The study of interactions between living things and their enviroments |
| Tropical rain forest | In this biome, Earth receives direct sunlight for most of the year, so temperatures are always warm. This climate is also very wet. |
| Biome | A large-scale ecosystem |
| Desert | This land receives little to no rainfall and it can be difficult to find water. It can be hot during the day, but cold at night. |
| Tundra | This biome is known for low temperatures and long winters, which prevents trees and large plants from growing |
