What is Life?

TermDefinition
Organism An organism is a living thing.
Cell the basic control center of the body
Unicellular Organism that consists of only one cell.
Multicellular Organism that consists of many cells.
Metabolism combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down material
Stimulus change that causes organisms to react
Response An action or change in behavior to a stimulus
Devolopment the change that occurs during an organisms life, producing a more complex organism
Asexual Reproduction involves only one parent and produces offspring that are identical to the parent
Sexual Reproduction involves two parents and combines their genetic meterial to produce a new organism that differs from both parents
Spontaneous Generation no parent/parents involved nor is a genetic field involved.
Controlled Expierement an expierment controlled by something.
Autotroph an organism that is able to form simple inoganic substances, such as carbon dioxide
Heterotroph an organism deriving it's nutritional requirments from complex organic substances
Homostasis the ability to or tendency to maintain internal stability in an organism to compensate for enviormental changes
