| respiration | The process of obtaining energy from food molecules. Happens inside the cells of all living things. |
| capillaries | Very small blood vessels that connect arteries to veins. |
| skeleton | The hard structures (bone and cartilage) that provide a frame for the body of an animal. |
| vein | A blood vessel that moves blood back to the heart from other parts of the body. |
| breathing | The process of moving air into and out of the lungs. |
| artery | A blood vessel that moves blood away from the heart to other parts of the body. |
| antagonistic muscles | A pair of muscles that work to move a bone in opposite directions (e.g. the biceps and triceps muscles). |
| fertilisation | The joining of a sperm and ovum (egg) during sexual reproduction. |
