What is life

TermDefinition
Organism A living thing.
Cell The basic unit of structure and function and living things.
Unicellular Made of a single cell.
Multicellular Consisting of many cells.
Metabolism A combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials.
Stimulus Any change or signal the environment that can make an organism react in some way
Response An action or a change in behavior.
Development The process of change that occurs during an organism's life, producing a more complex organism.
Spontaneous generation The mistaken idea that living things can arise from nonvolving sorces.
Controlled experiment A scientific control that is designed to minimize the effects of variables other then the independant varible.
Autotrophs Organism's that make their own food.
Hetertrophs Organism's that cannot make their own food.
Homeostatis The maintanence of stable internal conditions.
Asexual reproduction Only involves one parent and producues offspring that are identical to the parent.
Sexual reproduction Involves two parents and combines their genetic material to produce a new organism that differs from both parents.
