Mountains and Volcanoes

| mountain | an area of land that rises steeply from the land around it |
| erosion | the process by which various surfaces get worn down due to friction from different substances |
| mountain ranges | long lines of mountains that were formed around the same time |
| mountain belt | a number of mountain ranges that are found close together |
| folded mountain | forms as the continental crust crumples and bends into folds |
| fault-block mountains | forms as the lithosphere is stretched and pulled apart by forces within Earth |
| volcano | an opening in Earth's crust through which molten rock, rock fragments, and hot gases erupt |
| viscosity | how thick a liquid is |
| shield volcano | broad, flat dome built up by many eruptions of lava with low amounts of silica |
| cinder cone volcano | a steep, cone-shaped hill formed b the eruptions of cinders and other rock fragments that pile up around a single crater. |
| composite volcano | a cone-shaped volcano that is steep near the top and flat towards the bottom. |
