How do you know when a full lunar cycle has occured? the moon goes form one new moon phase to the next new moon phase

Waxing crescent only a sliver of the moon is illuminated (on the right side as viewed from Earth)
First quarter half of the near side of the moon is illuminated (on the right side as viewed from Earth)
Waxing gibbous moon is more that half illuminated, but not yet full
Full Moon near side of the Moon is fully illuminated by sunlight
Waning gibbous moon is more than half illuminated (left side)
Last quarter half side of the near side of the moon is illumintated (left side)
Waning crescent last sliver of the moon is illuminated
How long is a full lunar cycle? 29.5 days
What shape is the moon? The moon is always a sphere, even though it appears to be different shapes
How does the moon move in space? The moon orbits the Earth, and rotates on its axis.

Describe the Total Lunar Eclipse The moon and sun are on exact opposite sides of the Earth, and the moon is completely in Earth's shadow.
Describe a Partial Lunar Eclipse Part of the moon is in Earth's shadow.
During which moon phases do lunar eclipses happen? full moon
How are the Sun, Earth, and Moon aligned during a solar eclipse? Earth-Moon-Sun
What is the path of totatlity? the narrow path of the shadow during a solar eclipse
What is the umbra? This is the inner part of the shadow during a solar eclipse. The moon will block all of the light from the sun.
What is the prenumbra? This is the outer part of the shadown during a solar eclipse. The moon only blocks a part of the sun's light.
Is light still visible during a total solar eclipse? During a total solar eclipse, light is still visible around the edges of the moon's shadow.
What is the corona? the sun's most outer part
What is an annular eclipse This occurs when the moon is too far from Earth to cover the sun's photosphere completely
