# Classifications

Number Classificatio

TermDefinition
Real Numbers Any number that appears on the number line. 4, -8, 0, 1/2, 6.48, etc.
Imaginary Numbers square root of a negative number "i"
Undefined Numbers has no meaning divided by 0
Rational Numbers Any number that can be expressed as a fraction a/b, where a and b are integers and b is not equal to zero. This includes terminating and non-terminating, repeating decimals.
Irrational Numbers Real numbers that can't be written as a fraction. This includes decimals that are non-terminating and non-repeating. pi
Integers Positive and negative whole numbers -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.
Whole Numbers All of the natural numbers INCLUDING zero 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
Natural Numbers Counting numbers, positive integers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.
Opposite Numbers Numbers that are direct opposites on the number line -2 and 2, -10 and 10
