| ELEMENT | A pure substance that cannot be broken down into other substances. |
| PURE SUBSTANCE | Made of one kind of particle and has a fixed or definite structure. |
| CHEMICAL SYMBOL | Used to represent an element by using 1-2 letters to identify an element. |
| COMPOUND | A pure substance made up of 2 or more elements that are chemically combined. |
| CHEMICAL FORMULA | A combination of symbols that represent the elements in a compound. |
| SUBSCRIPT | Shows the number of atoms of an element. |
| CHEMICAL CHANGES | Forms one or more new substances. |
| PHYSICAL CHANGES | Changes the appearance of a substance but a new substance is not formed. |
| PRECIPITATE | A solid that forms from a solution during a chemical change. |
| EVIDENCE OF A CHEMICAL REACTION | Color Change, Production of Gas, Change in Temperature, and Production of a Precipitate |
| PHYSICAL PROPERTIES | Characteristics of a substance that are observed without changing the substance into something else. |
