Investigating Physical Properties of Matter

Properties Characteristics
Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Mass A measure of how much matter is in an object.
Volume A measure of the amount of space occupied by an object.
States One of the conditions in which matter exists-solid, liquid, and gas
Solid A state of matter. Has a definite shape and volume.
Liquid A state of matter. Has a definite volume, but not shape. Takes the shape of its container.
Gas A state of matter. Has no definite shape or volume.
Temperature A degree of hotness or coldness the can be measured using a thermometer.
Magnetism A property of certain substances which pull closer or repel other objects.
The ability to sink or float/ buoyancy The tendency to float or to rise when submerged in water.
Dissolve To become broken up or absorbed by something or to disappear into something else.
Degrees A measure of temperature. Measured in Celsius.
Gram Unit of measurement for mass.
Liter Unit of measurement for volume.
Repel To push back or away.
Attract To pull to or draw towards.
